Chief Factor's
Residence
he
Chief Factor's residence is included to show the garden and the ivy entwining
the building. Many people think of forts as cold, hard, military encampments.
However, because Upper Fort Garry
represented the seat of government and centre of trade in the area rather
than a military stronghold, photographs like this one shows the fort to
have more of a domicile nature than an aggressive one.
Examine the garden, you can see a variety
of plants, some which are staked up. Notice the cupboard-like greenhouse
by the fence. Hardly the trappings of a military stronghold.
